Director, South Shasta County Children’s Chorus
Lizzie Stoxen is a native of Barrington, Illinois. Beginning with piano lessons at age six, she spent her youth engrossed in music. Her first choral experience was with the Barrington Children’s Choir in 1994. She specialized in mallet percussion until switching focus to singing after moving to Redding in 1997. As a student at Parsons Junior High and then Enterprise High School, she was a member of several award-winning groups, including “Special Concepts”, the youngest group invited to sing at the International Association of Jazz Educators conference in 1999, Enterprise Starship, EHS Hornet Marching Band, Victorian Carolers and “TBA”, the 2004 Downbeat Magazine Vocal Jazz Ensemble of the Year.
Lizzie began to study classical voice in 2004 and spent two years at the renowned Chicago College of Performing Arts. Since then she has performed locally at Shasta College in the opera workshop and the vocal jazz ensemble, as a guest with the CSU Chico jazz band, A Cappella ensemble WNAOH, and most recently appeared as Mrs. Claus in The Cascade Theatre’s production of A Cascade Christmas. Outside of performing, Lizzie has previously arranged vocal music, having several pieces debuted by the Shasta College Jazz Choir.
When not pouring her soul into music, Lizzie is a wife and stay-at-home mother to two amazing little girls.
