MikeMichael Costa currently directs the band program at Anderson Union High School and the band and choir at Pacheco Elementary/Junior High School.

He held the position of Director of Bands at the Tracy High School Performing Arts Magnet for six years prior to Merced High School where he was Director of Bands and led the Merced Marching 100. In 2013, Costa moved to the North State and was director of bands at Enterprise High School for two years.

Mr. Costa has served as Vice President of High School Honor Band and President of the San Joaquin County Music Educators Association.

He is a member of the Northern California Band and Choir Directors Association, the California Music Educators Association and was a member of the Northern California Band Association which in 2009 named him Young Band Director of the Year. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with his Bachelors Degree in Music from the University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music; winning the prestigious Commencement Concerto Competition in 2000 and accepted a graduate assistantship to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he earned his Masters Degree in Music and studied with world-renowned percussionist and marimba artist William Moersch.

Mr. Costa has performed with the Champaign-Urbana Symphony, the Danville Symphony Orchestra, the Stockton Concert Band, the Danville Concert Band, the Stockton Symphony, the North State Symphony and is a member of the Cobalt Percussion Quartet. He has performed at the Berklee Mallet Keyboard Festival in Boston, the Premiere Princeton Marimba Festival, and competed in the 2006 at the International Marimba Competition in Linz, Austria. In 2008, he performed at Zipper Hall at the Colburn School in Los Angeles as part of the Zeltsman Marimba Festival premiering parts of his adaptations for marimba and in 2011 premiered his first solo work for marimba. Costa also plays with two Jazz groups in Redding, the Usual Suspects and the Straight Ahead Band, and has been recording with guitarist/composer Charles Valona.

Mr. Costa traveled to New York City in 2010 to perform at Carnegie Hall with the Stockton Concert Band and Wind Ensemble, and in April of 2013 performed at Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. as Principal Percussionist with the Delta Winds. He also directed the Enterprise Festival Ensemble at Kennedy Center in April of 2015.

Mr. Costa currently resides in Anderson, California with his lovely wife Patricia and their sons Ezra and Asa.
